The G20 is a different group, a rotating conference of the finance
ministers of the 19 largest national economies as well as the EU
itself.

Canada joined the G6 under Trudeau in 76.

The G8 btw is a completely seperate group, it's nominally the G7 +
Russia, but is a conference of heads of government rather than finance
ministers.
