Hi Bruce,
Good to hear from a - neighbor?!! Be happy that your in Sacramento (my wife
was born there) right now - last night the temp dropped down to -22 in
parts of the valley!
As for the new 67II, Pentax fixed a number of design problems (like the
shutter release button - weak design) that they had with the older versions.
Don't get me wrong I also have 2 of the older body styles but if you were in
the market for a 6x7 I would get the new version. If you go to the Pentax
web site you will find that until the end of Jan. they are offering a
$200.00 discount if you buy a new Pentax 67II with the new TTL Pentaprism.
Also, if you check out the www.calumentphoto.com web site I believe they are
offering the camera for about $1200. The nice thing about the 6x7 lenses is
that which ever version of that particular lens you may want to buy, they
will fit both the older and the newer body style. Finally, if you want to
get an older style 6x7 for a lot less you can always go to www.ebay.com.
Then go to the medium format section and specify your search to Pentax. If
you have not visited that site you will be surprised at the amount of 6x7
gear sold on ebay! Oh course, it is a buyer beware market but I have bought
a lot of gear that way and have not been burned yet. I should mention that
I screen the people very closely that I am considering buying from before
making a bid but if you follow ebay buyer recommendations hopefully you will
be able to come out ok.
