Well, I started out using Capture One. It was nice to process large
batches. Lightroom didn't exist then. When Lightroom came out, I
tried it a couple of times. I found it to be too much. It wanted to
manage my files and organize things and build galleries and much
more. Since I already had software that did all those things the way
I wanted, the only part of Lightroom for me was just the raw
conversion. The overhead of the file management made lightroom
pretty sluggish for me. As Godfrey alluded to earlier, you need some
horsepower. I was running it on a Windows XP box with a Pentium 4,
3.2 Ghz hyper-threaded processor with 2 gig of RAM. Still felt very
pokey compared to other programs.

I later tried and liked Silkypix. That is what I am still using. So
it, along with BreezeBrowser Pro for organizing and gallery building
and XpressDigital Darkroom for all my wedding and sports online
ordering systems, Lightroom just didn't fit.

If you have nothing right now for any of it, Lightroom is a more
complete package than the other Raw converters - doing much more than
just the Raw conversion. It is certainly worth trying, along with
Silkypix, Capture One, Bibble and others. Most of them give you a
free trial to see what works best for you.

I can say that all of them work better than the Pentax Software -
especially for larger batches.
