Although I am a heavy user of Picasa and (still) a light user of RAW, my little
experience converting pictures showed that it did a worse (more grainy for
instance) job than other converters.
This happened with pictures captured at ISO800 with my previous camera (*ist
Ds) and I compared to the, currently extinct, Rawshooter Essentials.

I can't work with the Pentax software, too slow...maybe it is one of the causes
for my 'RAW allergie'. Since I can't justify the costs of commercial software,
I use Raw Therapee for those special pictures that I take with RAW from time to
time.

Ok, look, 'RAW allergie' --> RAW therapee, everything fits! ;-)

Regards,
Jaume
