That's my only quibble with Lightroom: I can't just browse and convert, I have to import images into its database first. I use Lightroom as the cornerstone of my workflow, but I do wish it would give me the option of occasionally converting a raw file without importing it (and thereby making me remove it from the database when I'm done).

Lightroom doesn't allow you to leave your original image alone and create a reference image (they call it importing, but it's not) that you can work on either in Lightroom or any other editing program, saving the original from any modification?
