Hi Jack, IMHO, I like the black and white, with that particular sky and subject, I would pursue that road.
If you feel like playing, I was looking at the histogram and there is room at the right to apply a gentle S curve, and after that in "levels" move the right "lever" a little to the left without clipping too much. I tried it on the jpeg and I looked better to my eye, if you have a raw file and process to TIFF 16 bits you may even have more room for playing.
