Perhaps you have engaged the trailing curtain synchro at the AF 500 FTZ. In such case, the camera can't sync faster than 1/125. Have a look at the back of your flash, and set it to first curtain sync and (hopefully) you'll get th1 1/250 speed. Good luck,
