I got my M8 back today. It's been all the way back to the Fatherland. You may remember I put it in for repair because someone had spilt beer on it, which got into the shutter release mech. I hoped to get it repaired under warranty, but wasn't terribly optimistic. The release is now working better than it ever did. As well as that they cleaned it, modified the electronics, cleaned the sensor, updated the firmware, cleaned and adjusted the rangefinder and adjusted all parts. Cost? £0.00 (that's $0.00 at current exchange rates, for those of you listening in black and white). They even charged the battery. The firmware upgrade provides the 'discreet' shutter cocking mode, which is a great improvement on the previous one and is much quieter all round, almost into M3 territory. I love Leica. The cherry on top is that my M4-2, which was in the shop on commission sale, has sold. So when the mandatory return period has expired I should (not wishing to count unhatched pullets) have a bit of money to spend on toys. Talking to the evil pusher about it, I said I was surprised it had sold so quickly - about 1 month. He told me that sales of used film Leicas are through the roof at the moment. He's sold 3 M4-2s on commission in the last couple of weeks, and as we were speaking someone was buying an M6 which had only been in the shop one full day. He said they're turning over used film Leicas in a matter of days at the moment.
