Jim, Larry, Joseph, Igor Thanks for the feedback on this. It seems the Pentax/Tamron 18-250 is a viable option, provided I stay aware of the limitations. Definitely being considered.
Jim - thanks for the thoughts on the Sigma 18-135 mm. That one would probably meet most of my needs for a walk about lens. The Sigma 17-70 is probably not long enough for what I think I need!
