I strongly recommend working your way through one or another of the video tutorials on Lightroom. Luminous-landscape has an excellent one, there are several others available on the net. I have found this invaluable for those I've helped tutor in LR as it does require you learn some new use concepts, the names of the various bits in their nomenclature, and a new workflow model to get the most out of it. I find it a very natural workflow, for me, but it is certainly different from what I was doing with Photoshop/Bridge/Camera Raw prior to Lightroom's arrival on the scene.

A quick tip when things get pushed around and you don't know why: control- or command-? will bring up a mini help panel with the keyboard commands for each module listed. I've learned a bunch just by going through the various keyboard command listings and trying things. :-)
