I agree. For myself, if I say "nice pic" (and I know I'll often reply to PESOs in two or three word sentences) it might be because I don't have a lot of time to formulate much more, and sometimes I just don't know what more I ~can~ say. A photo may not move me a great deal, but I'd like the poster to know that I looked at it and that the photo has some worth to it. If something moves me, or if a small change would improve it substantially, I'll try to say that. But as for Shel's post from (what was it?) five years ago putting a permanent chill on "honest and open critiques", well, that's a pile of hooey. It put a chill on personal attacks on the photographer that have nothing to do with the photograph in question.
