It hasn't actually changed it's problem, I'm just getting increasingly fed
up with it happening. You might be remembering the original issue I had
with
this machine, which was caused by the Matrox card I installed originally
not
supporting a few things such as DirectX 10 and the like. I fixed that
issue
by replacing it with the Asus card. The link that Graydon pointed me to
made
me decide to not bother chasing it down any longer and just replace the
graphics card with a new one and go from there.

You are probably right about the team I use, they are nice guys, but they
are a "used technology" shop, so most of what they deal with is a
generation
or two behind my computer, though the owner came from one of the better
computer places in town and seems to know what he is doing.
OTOH, with the money I've now spent on trying to figure out where the
problem is coming from, I could have just as easily replaced the video card

with enough money left over to put a down payment on a new motherboard, so
I
guess sometimes it's a false economy to try to solve these things.

Thanks for responding

=============
A hardware problem is always tougher to solve than a software problem.
Mainly because the results can be very unpredictable. Software problems, bugs,
are usually predictable. A program will crash in the same place doing the
same thing. Or a program will crash another program when the same programs
are loaded into memory at the same time. A hardware problem can crash
different programs doing different things, or appear to be fixed but then keep
cropping up at odd times (since heat or length of use can be a contributing
factors).

Good luck with the new card.

And if you still have problems -- yes, finding new geek(s) would probably
be good (because it may mean some of your other hardware, even software,
needs to be reconfigured/changed/fixed).

Hope it will soon be behind you.
