There are a bunch of young people here (and in many other cities, too) who emulate the look of bike messengers. Expensive track bikes, messenger bags, rolled up jeans, hoodies (in cool weather), they ride around looking cool and hip. Some of them hang around with couriers (almost like groupies) and attend courier events, and others just ride about, looking for all the world like messengers - except for the most part their bikes are a bit too expensive and they themselves are a bit too clean. Many couriers derisively refer to them as Fakengers or Hipsters. Personally I have no problem with them; actually I think it's flattering that they find "the look" attractive, and besides, anything that gets people on bikes is a good thing: http://mondociclismo.blogspot.com/2009/04/hipster.html BTW, the "title photo" for the blog features real messengers, scroll down to see The Hipster...
Wow, didn't realize this was the case with young folk these days. Nice one, Frank. I read the other posts about the tires--can't believe they were that clean. Good motion blur there too. I've never seen a "lock-holder" like he has on his hip. Nice shot. Cheers, Christine
