I've *definitely* seen glitches in xD with my wife's Fujifilm F31fd. Unlike SD, all of the "smarts" have to be in the controller, and I think there's a lot more room for errors. Removing card while the filesystem is mounted can destroy data -- even if you haven't written anything. So in that case, I think the paranoia is justified.
