That sounds like a plan. I've reworked the original from RAW. I could see some 
artifacts when viewed at 150% in the previous image. I'll upload "Kingfisher 
Redux" this evening if I get chance, I'm at work right now.

I thought I recognised the combination of sharpening (under the beak)
and NR (plumage). :-)

I sometimes find it best to apply the Ninja to the background only.
I first duplicate the background layer, apply the Ninja to look good
for the background, and leave the USM in the Ninja to 60 or lower.
Then I choose the eraser in PS, set it to pressure 6-9% and remove the
bird from the duplicate (noise-reduced) layer.
