we not only use the L sign here in india (for both cars *and*
motorcycles) but it has entered the local lexicon too (across multiple
languages). rather unfairly, the phrase "L board" is used to denote a
bumbling amateur or someone who is a bit lost at what he/she is
doing.... 

no "N board" however ;-))
