One of the better fish and chip joints in Toronto is Penrose Fish and
Chips. A little unassuming joint run by ex-pat Newfies, it hasn't
changed much since the 50's or 60's. They're popular with a number of
out-of-town celebs (including, apparently Babs Streisand who stops by
for take-out whenever she's in town).

Before I went vegan I had to have a "final Penrose trip" for their
deep-fried haddock and chips. Unlike many such places who have gone
"healthier" over the years, Penrose still deep fries everything in
lard. My thinking is that deep fried is bad for ya anyways, so you
might as well go all the way with lard.

Yum!

cheers,
frank
