I tried walking over the past few years, and just doing that really bothered my knees and feet. Feet are a problem. They have been broken a number of times, and with all the gout attacks i had over the past 25 years or so make them sore very fast. I resurrected my old Norco bike i bought in 1990, had it tuned up for about $90 in 2007 and now i can ride, relatively pain free and get some exercise. It helped in my lose of 30lb last year.
