Been there, Walter. Usually up in the hills on the south approach to
the runway at Miramar back when it was a NAS. Broken planes and broken
pilots, frequently crispy. Hard to do, hard to forget. Some of our
best young men.

we were walking around in the JP-4 fuel.
I was told by some "experts" that a plane full of fuel is less likely
to explode than one half or less empty. I just remember my wife
chewing me out when I showed her the pictures!
