Canon actaully did that years ago with the XL-1:

You needed an adapter and if memory serves there was a crop factor.

I suspect that an eventual solution is a company that makes dedicated
video cameras that use DSLR lenses. Let's face it, chances are that
the camera body isn't the most expensive bit of gear in your kit.
