Well, lemme see...
Pentax is coming out with a new camera. So, the list has spent the
last couple of days talking about all of the new features of the
camera.
So far, the 1/180 flash sync spec of the new model has become a hot
topic. Those in the majority are of the opinion that Pentax should
have bumped the speed to at least 1/250 or maybe even faster since
the 1/2 to 1/3 stop (there was some confusion here) could be quite
useful in some situations especially outdoor, heavily backlit,
fill-flash applications. Those in the minority reminded the others
that the LX only had a 1/75 flash sync and that camera didn't even
have a 100% viewfinder, something the new camera has.
... and so on.
I looked at it on the Pentax site Thursday the 21st. Looks like a lot of
stuff I won't use or am managing to get along without already.
The two things I really noticed is it's gonna' take a different battery
than the K20D & K10D and it has a PC socket for studio flash (or pocket
wizards ...)
Different battery doesn't appeal to me. It means I got to carry an
additional battery charger if I want to carry a K10D/K20D as a backup body.
And, I I guess I'm with those who think the flash sync should be at
least 1/250, since Pentax managed to do that with the PZ-1/PZ-1P. Seems
like they're backing up here, but they've apparently been doing that for
a while, since the MZ-S, K10D and K20D were all 1/180 as well.
If Nikon can get an x-sync up to 1/250, Pentax should be able to do so.
Is someone going to tell me Pentax's engineers aren't as good as Nikon's
engineers?
I'm glad to see the PC socket is back, but looking at the K20D specs, I
see it has the PC socket as well.
One thing I wish Pentax would do is bring back the cable release socket
or at least offer adapter to let me use the dual cable release that
works with the Bellows-A.
All things considered, I'll probably be in the market for a used K20D or
else I'll be waiting to see what the "K20D replacement" that's supposed
to be on the way this fall (??) has to offer.
There's just not enough "got to have" increase in the functionality for
me to justify spending the money.
Looks like a nice camera though. I hope Pentax can sell a shit pot load
of them.
