That's one of the things I don't like, either.  Extra battery charger,
and no way to share spare batteries between bodies (although at least
with the new battery grip I can use AA batteries at a pinch).

I doubt if either company actually make their own shutters; I'm sure they
are a commodity part bought from a third party (Sanyo?).  Presumably it's
a matter of cost.

Postings on the DPReview forums strongly suggest that the K-7 *is* the
K20D replacement, a.k.a the K30D.

That's a cost/functionality tradeoff that's going to be different for
every photographer.  Some folks who already have the K20D still see
enough extra (frame rate, metering, AF improvements, small size, ...)
to warrant the purchase, although others see no compelling argument.
It's a little more tempting if you're coming from a K10D (or earlier),
as this also gets you the improved low-light performance of the CMOS
sensor (and the extra pixel count).
