Odd. I've now one 3rd party battery I bought short after I bought K10D back in late 2006. It works still consistently getting about 30% less shots than the original one. I also have another 3rd party battery which I bought used from a fellow list member. It is probably the same as the original one w.r.t. capacity. Not on paper, but in practice.

It is really strange to hear that yours expired just after a year of use.
