Whether hand held or tripod, the first thing you have to do is to learn the flight patterns. Then you have to practice smooth movements. This is where I fail, most of the time... :-) If you work off a tripod, you need a system that's well balanced and easy to move smoothly. I have a RRS ballhead with a Wimberley Sidekick. A dedicated Wimberley head is probably better.
