A requirement to understand flight patterns and performing smooth panning movements I was aware of; can't do it worth spit, but that's a separate problem. (The fact that the local gulls appear to have drinking problems is yet another separate problem. :) > If you work off a tripod, you need a system that's well balanced and > easy to move smoothly. I have a RRS ballhead with a Wimberley > Sidekick. A dedicated Wimberley head is probably better. I was struck by just how many of those I saw being toted through the woods at Point Pelee; presumably also good for getting the migrating warbler in the frame. I've been using a rather blah manfrotto pan head with an admittedly light mirror lens, and I can just manage big, stable, predictable flyers, like swans. Figuring out where erratic flyers like skuas are going to go is impressive. -- Graydon -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
