The solution is put a little slice of Scotch Magic Transparent(TM) tape over the missing tab. It doesn't need a cutout there just that there isn't a cutout in the wrong err right err write place. It was the same solution used on permanently write protected floppies, (remember when AOL would send out their software on Permanenty write protected floppies, I never had to buy the, just use the free AOL floppies. The only thing I'm worried about is that the tape might be scraped off when removing the card from the camera, which make it a b**** to remove the tape from the card slot. There might be a better tape for the job but not one that I have readily available. MMC cards work fine, (they're just an SD card without the write protect tab, but I bet you won't find a high capacity MMC card anywhere, I know I've tried.

Was glad to have the tabs once - as it prevented a lousy relative of mine to "accident" the party pics in the process of making himself a copy. Normal users shouldn't need them, tho. Gluing maybe? Anyone did that and survived??

Well only one really, <RANT> I really hate that SD cards have a write protect tab on them. Really REALLY HATE that. For the second time I've had the experience of changing cards and the *ist-Ds won't fire and displays the message, "Card is write protected" So I pop out the card and the damned tab is GONE. It never happens when you have time to try to fix the problem, always when it's your last card, (when else?). What is the damned point to this freaking throwback to 3 1/2 inch floppy disks anyway? Just a useless feature to go wrong and annoy me? </rant> Thanks for listening now back to our usual programing.

The free man owns himself. He can damage himself with either eating or
drinking; he can ruin himself with gambling. If he does he is certainly a damn
fool, and he might possibly be a damned soul; but if he may not, he is not a
free man any more than a dog.
