I am quite aware of that. I've owned Leica lenses which cost three
times what the Pentax 31 Limited costs, and they're not "three times
as good". The difference is that *they* were worth it: I was never
disappointed in the quality of the photos they made, even though
paying for one of them was akin to offering up my pound of flesh along
with the requisite quantity of blood. Shylock is probably chortling
away at the thought.

I found the 31 Limited on the DSLRs to be disappointing for its price
tag ... primarily for reasons of flare, flare that was not easy to
prevent since I couldn't fit a decent lens hood without creating some
weird contraption or hunting down just the right one that would sneak
inside the fixed hood. And the idiocy of creating a fixed lens hood
that permanently blocks or makes clumsy the use of other lens
accessories put it over the top. That's it, it's my opinion and I
voted with my wallet: I sold the lens to someone who appreciated it
more than I, took the money and bought other lenses that I found more
suitable.

If that bugs you for some unknown reason, well, that's not my problem.
