Anybody have suggestions?

i like the MountainSmith range of "lumbar packs"; these tend to ride better and carry more weight comfortably, but you have to master the suspension straps; great for hiking and biking with smallish loads; no padding for cameras so i generally insert a small padded SLR case, then stuff snacks and a rain coat around it

Pat's suggestion, the Kinetic model, is much smaller than the models i have, the Tour and the Day; these also have better suspensions; the Day is my preferred bag, with about 4x the space of the Kinetic and comes with a nice shoulder strap for swinging around the hips to access the bag; the Tour is halfway in between, and less structured than the Day; it is better for quick bike trips; on both models the waist strap also stows away cleanly for more of a messenger bag style

there is a discontinued model which i also have, the Cairn, which is even larger and more structured; i use that quite often on trips
