If you have a few friends who need hosting you could all chip in for a VPS, provided that at least one of you is technically-minded enough to be able to set it up and run it. The plan I'm using allows up to 30 domains, I think (I'm currently using 3).
I've often thought of selling a few hosting accounts to help with the cost of my server but I'm not really sure I want the risks or responsibility.
