I think a preference for a particular camera and user-interface judgments
are somewhat a product of what one becomes accustomed to. When I was using
the K10D exclusively, everything was automatic. I barely had to think.
When I went back to it after using the K20D for a few months, I was
confused and annoyed, even though it was quite similar. Just yesterday,
after only about two weeks and some 900 frames with the K7D I switched
back to the K20D to shoot a panorama. I had to pause and think about how
to choose manual white balance. Any tool that is used every day becomes an
extension of the hand and mind.
This really points to a mistake that Pentax made with the K-7. While the
K10/K20 may not have perfect interfaces, the control layout is quite
logical.
This is not to say that the K-7 interface isn't logical, or an improvement.
By changing the position of some of the oft used buttons and removing the Fn
button, they have made it very difficult to switch between the two cameras.
