I only owned the istD, but does the Ds have TTL metering for flash. If so, maybe keep the newer camera. If the sensor/filter is similar to the D and you think IR shooting may be in your future maybe keep the Ds for reason mentioned above. I know the istD does a good job on IR with a R 72 filter.
