I was trying to figure out this strange problem with printing from
LR and PS to Epson R2880 by using paper profiles.

I think my problem is solved, but I discovered a weird feature of the
profiles and Epson software.

Here is what I was seeing:
Settings 1. Enabled color management by printer ("Standard RGB"),
       disabled by the software
                         ->     reasonable colors.

Settings 2. Disabled color management by printer ("Custom -> Off")
        enabled paper (printer) .icc profile
-> shift towards green and red.

Now, I also saw that the preview generated by the printer software
(if I check-mark in the printer settings the corresponding box)
was producing the same color shift.

Conclusion:
Settings 2: it works, BUT: the preview is still way off.
I am not sure why, but it's a feature.

More over, in PS, when I choose a profile for color proof, -
the image also shows that same ugly color shift.

I am puzzled why these color-proofing methods do not produce the
expected results, rendering useless (and even worse: misleading).
I should point out that the colors I see on the display in both PS
and LR are very close to the outcome I get from the printer by
printing with the .icc profiles.
