Nice work. Looks like a lot of fun. Where on the island did this take place?

On the Waimakariri River which is on the Northern outskirts of Christchurch city. The race starts a couple of km west of the airport and finishes at the main highway bridge.

I grabbed these (approximate) lat/long figures from Google Maps...

Start: -43.446267,172.508934
Finish: -43.415273,172.646649

Hey this thing is rather cool. I'd guess I was standing at about -43.439139,172.530123 for most of the race. Those satellite photos look pretty recent.

The race distance is about 10km I think, and the fastest competitors take a little under 45 mins to finish (yes, it's downstream). Most take 50-60 minutes. The guys in white-water boats are doing very well if they finish in under an hour.

Cheers,
Dave
