Dave,
These are your best pictures so far.
Good light is clearly your friend. :-)
I liked many of the people shots.
Their faces and expressions were clearly visible.
And some of the pre-race staging shots helped tell the story.
Plus I liked the artistic ones with the racer on the water with
mountains in the background.
It's beautiful country.

Thanks for commenting, Bob (and Paul and David).
I try to show as much variety as I can but these galleries do tend to
feel a bit "same old" at times. I'd like to try covering some other
events just to mix things up a bit.
This time around I struggled to find many photos with multiple people
in them, probably due to me using the 200mm almost exclusively during
the race. Most of the ones I did get have the people lined up right
behind each other. I don't really like to fill the gallery with a
whole bunch of single portraits but I do tend to end up with a lot of
them.
I see it as being just as much of an artistic endeavour as a record of
an event so I do like to include some scenery, even the power
pylons ;) A couple of the pics made it in because I liked the colours.
I think the pre/post race stuff is just as important as the event
itself because it isn't all about the racing. There's a very sociable
atmosphere despite some people being very competitive on the water -
you can clearly see the differing attitudes in some of the photos. I
typically take a lot more of the pre-race as people tend to clear out
soon after finishing while I'm still getting pictures of the latter
competitors.
Cheers,
Dave
