One wonders if he would have been a famous photographer if he hadn't
staged that picture.

It's hard to know. It's also hard to know if he actually staged it
after more than 70 years. You'd have to find the exact spot the
photo was supposedly taken and use a lens of the same effective focal
length and do an exhaustive series of photographs and do serious
photo interpretation to be sure one way or another, and still the
issue would be in doubt. It looks to me that the evidence cited is
totally anecdotal and after this amount of time has elapsed would be
highly suspect.
It looked to me from the article that they had found the exact spot
(within a few yards anyway), and that said spot was several miles from
the actual fighting.
At least that's how I read it, anyway.

That's what the article said, but there seems to have been no real
analysis by experts, other wise they would have been quoted. At least I
assume they would have quoted them. Of course it doesn't have to be an
expert, a rigorous analysis by a talented amateur could convincing as
well, but then I'd have to see a discussion of the methodology. Such as
this which debunks the grassy know theory of JFK's assassination.

a rabid conspiracy theorist, I found it looking for more information on
the Kodak Medalist II, because I have one.
