Indeed! Further, they actually have to coordinate with all the camera mfg.'s they provide the lens for. It doesn't have to be the same number, of course, but it increases the management for each lens model. Do you know if Pentax lenses contain a chip that identifies the lens? Theoretically, this should have been introduced with the F-series, since Pentax can discern all its own AF lenses...
