Might try for a third version. Combine your less processed foreground
with the more processed storm clouds.
I would tone down the clouds slightly.

I feel your pain. ;-P Her version is overprocessed, but I think most
folks (not from the PDML) would prefer the vivid look of her version.
The use of PS has shifted tastes in that direction.
