I found the Tamron pretty poor at 300mm. At the long end, it has bad purple fringing at all apertures, and a general lack of sharpness. The purple fringing isn't just "branches against a bright sky"... it also appears at the boundary of light and dark feathers on a Canada Goose's face, for example. At shorter focal lengths, especially 70-135mm or so, I'm quite pleased with it. I'm also happier with the "macro" performance than I expected to be. You can browse around my photos at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/coneslayer/tags/tamronaf70300mmf456lddimacro/ But they're all reduced in size, many are cropped, many have had the purple fringing reduced as best I could, etc. Both of my PDML Photo Annual images were taken with this lens. (Blasphemy?) My dad's Sigma seems generally better than my Tamron, and I don't think he has any real complaints about it. I've heard that the Sigmas exhibit more lens-to-lens variation; his seems to be a good one. My new DA*300 is in a whole different league than either of them at 300mm, of course... -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
