Well, you were right. The deal I mentioned previously went sour.

I placed the order online last night (Regency Camera), and called this morning
to confirm: PZ-1p, Pentax 28-105 and Pentax 100-300 for $614 including shipping
(which was around $35).

My "Customer Service Rep" started me off through the traditional pitch fo a
bunch of items (bag, strap upgrade, etc.) I didn't need, then put me on hold.
Came back to tell me they were out of both of the lenses (his excuse was that
they had received a bunch of them, but sent them back to Pentax due to a "build
quality issue").

Instead, he could offer me a Tamron 28-105 and a Tamron 75-300 instead of the
Pentaxes for - in his words - "slightly more money". Back on hold again I
go. He comes back and tells me the new package would be $799 plus shipping (and
of course the shipping charge would go up as well). Needless to say, I cancelled
the order, frustrated, but at the same time laughing and relieved.

Now, I'm off to shop at B&H/Adorama/KEH/CameraWord/Samy's to get the body and
either a short prime or a proven small zoom.

I should have known better, but we live and learn (and the lesson could have
been MUCH more painful).

Thanks for the good advice, and I trust you've read this post with a small smile
and a knowingly nodding of the head...

Regards,

Marc
