OK - lots of answers and thoughts. Thanks! One reason I print 4x6 is to keep in a standard album. Stuff like vacations, kid's sports, etc. When I shoot the kids sports, I tend to take shots of other kids as well and I like to hand out prints to the parents. Going larger tends to increase costs. If a parent wanted a larger shot I usually go back and reprocess to the dimensions asked for (my processing skills are very limited, it's not that big of a deal).
I've thought about it a little more and really what I'm thinking about is say you have a shot that you've cropped square (or wide) and want to print it. How would you go about that. I guess, if you print it, you could always post print crop via a mat or some other mounting process. Cropping in the viewfinder is a good theory and I try to follow that but I'm really not that good.
