most of the early smcK lenses were just screw to K conversions,
but the smcK mechanics were not as nice as the st/smc screw mechanics.

There were some optical exceptions though, the K18/3.5, K20/4,
K28/3.5, k200/2.5 were all new designs optically.

Subject: Re: K55/1.8 question

Scott,
I think so...
The screw mount 55/1.8 SMC-Takumar was the standard lens for the last
Spotmatics. The K55/1.8 was introduced with the KM, KX, K2 as the
standard lens. Only later did the K50/1.7 appear. In fact, there is a
whole line of SMC knock-offs. The lens sizes and formulas(?) were just
re-issued in K-mounts. (I believe the formulas are the same, but no
Boz's site for comparison.) With the ME and MX cameras, Pentax
re-designed the whole line to be smaller and have 49mm filter
sizes(mostly). The K135/2.5 and K85/1.8 are great holdovers from the SMC
screwmounts and premium quality lenses in either mount. Regards, Bob S.
