A simple spot meter does not require "contacts". A proper spot meter does not "weigh"
anything. It should just give you an exposure that gives the same density for the
measured
item you would get were a gray card measured. Point it at snow and you get 18% gray
snow.
Point it at a black tux - poof! your man wears light charcoal! Of course his face is
totally washed out. Point it at the tux, then the white shirt, split the difference and
you get something printable. Using a spot meter can be tricky when you start out.

Regards,
Bob...

"Let us contemplate our forefathers, and posterity,
and resolve to maintain the rights bequeathed to us
from the former, for the sake of the latter.
The necessity of the times, more than ever, calls
for our utmost circumspection, deliberation, fortitude,
and perseverance. Let us remember that 'if we
suffer tamely a lawless attack upon our liberty,
we encourage it, and involve others in our doom.'
It is a very serious consideration that millions yet
unborn may be the miserable sharers of the event."
- Samuel Adams, 1771
