Personally, the UK meeting posts didn't bother me in the least. Made
me want to get on a plane in fact. But the objection was raised
because they were sent outside of the PDML and landed in everyone's
personal e-mail boxes. In other words, they weren't sent to the list.
They were sent to most of the personal accounts that make up the list.
No big deal, but it's probably better to confine meeting notices to
the list.

It's no worse than the barrage of emails between the UK set

Why pick on just the UK folk? After all, there are at least as many
messages about a NorCal meet as there are about UK meets. And unless
we stamp it out now, there'll be a whole new thread about a Boston
meet.
The choice to copy the most recent message thread to the list was
mine,
and it was a deliberate decision. I consider discussions of a PDML
meet
to be appropriate material for the PDML, and in any case with only a
little more than a week to go there wasn't really a lot of time to
conduct
preliminary discussions off-list before sending a final notification
to
the list in case anybody else wanted to join us.
