You can semi opt out by not revealing your personal details, or by obscuring them slightly as I do. Anybody who really wants to can find out from my PDML details who I am if they make an effort, but if they google my name they won't find much - in fact most of the hits seem to be other people with the same name. The key, of course, is not to assume that you're in a private space when you're writing on the internet. Don't say anything that might come back to haunt you. In particular, think about what a boss or potential boss might find by googling you, and don't put private matters relating to family and friends online. Despite the cliché, it's not the same as chatting in a pub. When you chat in a pub your words are not recorded and kept in the public domain forever.
