Given a good original print and 600 ppi scan .. certainly. It's only a 2x enlargement. That scan will print without scaling to 8x10 inch at 300 ppi. Scanning the contact print will show some contrast gain. A small amount of resolution loss depending upon your scanner's quality might also be exhibited. For the first, develop and contact print to a slightly lower than normal contrast rendering. For the second, a bit of sharpening work in post processing will clean it up beautifully. I found a box of ancient prints (my own snapshots, from as far back as 1963) recently.
