Yes, true. However, to do a really thorough "flare check" you should stop down to the intended shooting aperture with the DOF preview lever, since flare can sometimes occur at only certain apertures (and not always when wide open - I've learned this before the hard way - <g>. Unfortunately, stopping down may make things dimmer and harder to see, but usually gross flare would catch your eye if you are checking even reasonably carefully.
