Hi Bob ... The hood is cushioned. Take a careful look inside and you'll see a layer of felt around the inner circumference of the hood where it comes in contact with the lens. This is typical of Takumar hoods from that era.
Many of the early Takumar hoods were very well crafted, some being rather complex and quite expensive to manufacture. Congratulations on another eBay experience.
