Hi Ken, Will you be driving from L.A. to Frisco? As Paul "Sly" Stenquist mentioned, Malibu Creek area is nice. There are a couple of lighthouses in Palos Verdes which is just south of LAX. The pier at Manhattan Beach makes for a great sunrise/sunset shot. Los Angeles Harbor is kind of scenic. When are you arriving? Feel free to email me if you need directions to anywhere in the area.
