Thanks, Bob. I just checked amazon & a used copy is selling for $64--maybe
I'll pick it up next pay period :-). It looks like just the sort of tonic I
need after having read the reviews & such. I'm very grateful for the
suggestion. My plan is to put together a bibliography of good photo books
on my web site. When I'm ready to do that, I'll solicit suggestions from
the list. Thanks again, Cheers, Christine

To be honest, I'm in a bit of a rut with this photo project.

Doing this might help rejuvenate my eyes--I feel I'm "seeing"
the same shots over and over again, and I have to do
something to see new again.

There's some really excellent work in there. Some of the portraits are
superb.
As for this rut you feel you're in, have you read On Being A Photographer,
by David Hurn and Bill Jay? If not, go find a copy and read it a few
times.
There is excellent advice in there about all aspects of the subject,
including a very good discussion about shooting photo essays, knowing when
you've finished, and how to avoid shooting the same thing over and over.
It's out of print and difficult to get hold of, but you may be able to
order
it through your library or borrow it from a trusting friend.

Sadly, Bill Jay died earlier this year. He was one of the leading lights
of
photographic journalism in Britain, and one of the clearest thinkers on
the
subject.
