After processing 22 Nef files and saving as +- 2.5K jpeg files for printing, all i can say is,, if i;'m going to shoot Raw for the better part, I'm going to need a newer computer. The USB 1.1 external HD's running through LR and saving on C drive is painfully slow. Twenty two conversion took 1 1/2 hours, mostly in lifting from the external i am thinking. Maybe $700 for a new PC build is not far off.
If you have a decent case and power supply (if you've bought an OTF you probably don't), it can be fairly reasonable to have the MB, processor, ram and video card upgraded. I had to do that recently on my box and was pleased by how little they charged me to put top of the line equipment into the box.
